Wedding Dreams

By Icka! M. Chif

"Ranma no Baka! Get back here!" Akane shouted as she chased Ranma home from school. Ranma laughed, never stopping.

"Why? So I can get pounded by a macho chick like you?"

"Jerk!"

He laughed and jumped over the gates of the Dojo. She ran in, right on his heels. He was standing just inside the gate, grinning at her with that infuriating grin of his. "Ha! Made it in record time. Y'know, for a slow chick, you're speeding up."

"I'll show you slow!" She growled, raising her mallet above her head.

She nearly lost her balance as the mallet was suddenly removed from her grip. Hands clamped onto her shoulders, keeping her up right. "Huh? What?"

She looked back to see who took her mallet to find her father there, tears streaming down his cheeks. "It is time." Soun said. Nabiki and Kasumi were standing there as well, dressed up in their finest clothes. Kasumi was holding on to her mallet.

"Time for what?" Ranma asked. She glanced over to see Nodoka and Genma on either side of Ranma, hands on his shoulders restraining him as well.

"For your wedding." Nodoka replied calmly.

Both her and Ranma's reactions were immediate and explosive. "WHAT?! I CAN'T MARRY THAT-"

They were both cut off by the glint of sliver coming from Nodoka's katana. Then they were dragged off to different parts of the house before they could protest further.

The next thing she knew, Akane was walking down the newly decorated Dojo, in a white dress she'd never seen before, escorted by her father. Probably more so that she didn't run than for support.

Ranma was standing by the altar, looking uncomfortable in a tuxedo. She didn't blame him. His mother was standing a few feet away from him, sword clearly visible and ready for use should the occasion arise.

Her father handed her to Ranma, tears streaming down his face as usual. Tears of joy, she thought bitterly. They were finally going to have what they wanted, the Tendo and Saotome houses joined, damn what she wanted.

But still, she should be happy, right? She'd finally beaten Shampoo, Ukyo, and all the other fiancée's, daemons and other rivals to marry Ranma.

But did she want to marry Ranma? She wondered as they knelt before the minister. He was obnoxious, egotistical and a real jerk at times. But he had always been there for her if she needed help. She knew, deep down that he did really care for her, as did she for him. Not that they would ever admit it out loud.

No, she was asking the wrong question. Maybe some day, she would want to marry Ranma, but now was not the time. She hadn't even finished High School! She glanced angrily over at her father. And she sure didn't want to get married just because it would please her family. If and when she got married, it would be by her choice. Hers and hers alone.

She looked over at Ranma, who was kneeling rigidly beside her out of the corner of her eye. "You want to do this?" She whispered, just loud enough for him to hear her through the veil without the others over hearing. He glanced over at her, looking like he would be protesting this whole affair if it wasn't for the fact he'd be stabbed, pounded and generally reduced to mulch.

"Me either." She agreed. The hand in her grasp relaxed a bit, losing some of the tenseness in it. She smiled, glad no one could see her face and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Want to run for it?" She offered.

Now it was Ranma's turn to stifle a smile. He nodded, a near indecipherable duck of his head as his eyes glinted mischievously. She nodded back, slowly releasing his hand and getting ready to move.

With a quick, sudden movement, she sprang to her feet and took off running for the Dojo exit, cheerfully throwing off her veil in the process. Behind her, she could hear exclamations and the sounds of some punches being thrown. She made it to the door when strong hands picked grabbed her around the waist, the ground vanished from beneath her feet. "Hang on!" Ranma ordered, as he leaped for the rooftops.

"Can't marry us if they can't catch us!" She crowed as they left the bewildered crowd behind. Their parents were going to kill them later, and the other fiancées were going to be after them for nearly getting married, but for the moment she didn't care. They were free!

Ranma laughed. "I can't believe we just did that!" He exclaimed, bouncing from rooftop to rooftop to get more distance between him and any pursuers they might have.

"Which?" She asked, still grinning. "Almost got married or just ran out of our wedding?"

"Take your pick!"

********

Akane was about to respond when an insistent beeping invaded her mind. Growling, she opened her eyes and swatted at the alarm clock next to her, silencing it. Morning. Dang it, that had been an interesting dream.

She rolled out of bed and nearly stepped on something small and black. It squealed and moved out of the way.

"P-Chan!" She cheered, picking up the tiny black pig as he gave a cute little yawn. He must have found his way in during the night, she realised. He was always showing up at the strangest times. "Am I glad to see you! Where have you been?"

P-Chan, of course, didn't answer, but looked happy to be back. "Well, c'mon P-Chan, lets get dressed and see about getting you some breakfast, you're probably starved." P-Chan nodded at her. Poor piggy hadn't eaten in a bit.

Akane smiled and changed out of her pajamas and into to her running clothes for her morning run as P-Chan investigated a pile of laundry.

Just the start to another normal day in Nerima.
