Interruption

By Icka! M. Chif

Inu Yasha stomped back towards the well. Kagome and himself had fought over how long she would stay in her time- and of course, she'd won again, telling him to SIT!

"Damn her! Why do I always have to look like the bad guy?! I just want to get this damn quest over with!" Inu Yasha muttered, slipping inside the well.

"Inu Yasha!!!" Kagome's cry alerted him.

"Eh?" He popped his head back up to see Kagome standing in the shrine's doorway.

"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Kagome sighed. "I just have this huge test tomorrow and-"

"Feh. I don't care. You don't want me around? Fine! I'll just go then." Inu Yasha snorted, going back to the well.

"Wait!!" Kagome said, reaching for him.

"What?" He looked irritated.

"I.... What's that?" Kagome pointed past him, towards the wall. Inu Yasha looked to where she had pointed.

"What in the seven hells??" He gasped, backing away.

"It looks like a.... portal.. I think." Kagome carefully walked over to a semi-large rainbow colored hole that was plastered to the wall. The portal tremored when Kagome touched it.

Suddenly-

"KYAAA!!" Kagome shouted, as the portal sucked her in.

"KAGOME!" Inu Yasha jumped forward, and grabbed her thighs. Both blushed at the awkward position, and the portal took the chance to suck them both inside.

Kagome didn't want to move. She was comfortable, curled up around something warm. A peculiar scent reached her muddled brain. It smelled familiar, but she couldn't quite place it. Smelled like tree sap and fires, with a wilder musky scent intermixed with it. It was safe, welcome.

She sighed, rubbing her cheek against the coarse material under her. She knew what it was, but at the moment, she couldn't remember. That was okay with her.

A small breeze blew something silky across her nose, tickling it and disturbing the tranquilly. Kagome wrinkled her nose at it irritably. She didn't want to move to brush it away. But it wouldn't leave her alone.

Something rubbed across her back. What ever she was laying on was moving. The message that she might want to move now finally reached her brain and she opened her eyes.

Into a pair of confused slitted amber ones.

Inu Yasha.

She was suddenly very aware of where every limb was. Her head was resting on his chest, one hand holding onto the firerat cloak. One of his arms was around her back, hand resting on her waist, the other one resting on the arm holding the cloak. One of her legs was bent, resting on his.

"Kyaaa!" She jumped back to a 'safe' distance as he clumsily scrambled backwards.

They both froze, heartbeats in their ears as they stared at each other, eyes wide.

Kagome couldn't believe it. She's been sleeping against Inu Yasha?! She blinked, feeling embarrassed. Inu Yasha swallowed nervously and she noticed the faint blush on his cheeks.

"You're thinking inappropriate thoughts again, aren't you!" She accused.

Inuyasha blinked at her in surprise, then quickly reached up and brushed his nose, as if to double check. His hand came away clean. "No." He grumbled surly, then proceed to get mad.

"Bitch! You're the one who was-" He stopped in mid sentence, his ears twitching. He suddenly threw himself at her, pressing her to the ground. A streak of red flew over head, the glint of a sharp blade catching her attention. She swallowed nervously as a second person followed, this one much, much larger than the first.

Inu Yasha slowly let her up, on his guard the entire time. As they watched, the shorter red haired man attacked the larger ogre with amazing speed. Yet for all the speed and precision of the strikes, there was no sign of the blows effecting the ogre.

"That one... he's got a shard..." She realised after a moment.

"Which one?" Inu Yasha growled. "The red one or the large one?"

"The larger one. It's right between his eyes."

"Not for long." Inu Yasha rose, hand reaching for the Tetsusaiga. She put a hand on his arm, stopping him.

"Wait, we don't want the red one to get involved too. I've got an idea."

He muttered under his breath, but crouched back down, listening for once.

Kenshin stepped back from his opponent, studying him again. The ogre should have fallen minutes ago. Yet somehow, he was able to absorb the blows without taking any injury. And he still had no idea why he had decided to attack the village. It seemed that he was doing it for no other reason than for the sheer joy of destruction.

The ogre laughed, getting ready to attack again. Kenshin raised his sword, ready to meet him.

"Stop! Time out!" A girls voice called. He glanced over to see a girl, about Karou's age, holding her hands up to make a 'T' symbol. She was dressed strangely, in a skirt that was much, much shorter than could be considered proper.

While the ogre's attention was drawn to the strange girl, a second figure jumped out of a tree, landing on the ogre's back. This one had long white hair and... dog ears?

The white haired one raised a rusty battered katana and brought the hilt down between the ogre's eyes, knocking something shiny out. The girl ran over and picked it up.

"Got it!" She called cheerfully, putting it into a jar that held many similar slivers. The dog boy let go of the ogre, sheathing his sword. The ogre fell bonelessly to the ground and lay there motionless.

"Doo Arigato. " The girl bowed. "Sorry for the interruption. You may continue your fight now." The dog-boy muttered something under his breath that Kenshin was quite sure he didn't want to know what it was. He then picked up the girl, threw her on his back and flew off. They got about 10 feet away when a rainbow coloured hole opened up infront of them and swallowed them up.

Kenshin stared at it in confusion. "Oroo?" What the heck had just happened?

Karou-dono and Yahiko came running up, drawing his attention away from the fight and where the strange portal had been. "Are you okay?" Karou asked, giving him a once over to check for injuries.

"I'm fine." He smiled reassuringly at her as he sheathed his blade.

"Was that a youkai?" Yahiko asked, peering at where the two had vanished with .

"Which one?" Kenshin asked, walking over to where the ogre lay. The man seemed deflated now, and unconscious. "The one that was dressed strangely or the one with the dog ears?"

Yahiko blinked, obviously not having an answer for that.

Kenshin smiled up at him. "Come on, lets go home." The constabulary could deal with the man. Word always traveled fast about a fight and they would be here soon.

"Supper's ready anyway." Karou added, smiling back at him. Kenshin was glad, he didn't like worrying her.

Yahiko gave Karou a funny look. She noticed. "What?" She demanded, putting her hands on her hips.

"It's bad enough Kenshin's fighting with oni, but do ya gotta poison him as well?" He asked.

"Na-ni?!" Karou saw red and proceeded to chase her laughing student down the road back to the Dojo, threatening harsh physical labour the entire way.

Kenshin sighed and followed his adopted family back home, the incident already fading from his mind. After all, youkai, oni and swirling rainbow coloured portals were fairey tales.

Weren't they?

Fin.
