"Mom! I'm HO-ome!" Kagome called, walking into the kitchen and setting the backpack on the ground next to the door.

Inuyasha followed her like a nervous shadow. He'd come with her just in case the portal closed up behind her, sealing her on this side with the jewel. Or so he claimed. But at least he was here, a bit of moral support.

"Welcome back, Kagome-chan." Her mother called from the other room. "How did your quest go?"

Kagome smiled. "We got all the shards, Mom. And defeated Naraku."

"That's wonderful!" Footsteps approached from the other room. "Does that mean you'll finally be able to spend more time *here* with your stuiieee-*"

Her mom's voice trailed off as she caught sight of Kagome and fainted. "Mom!" Without thinking about it, Kagome rushed forward and caught her mom before she hit the floor.

"I told you you should have waited until you turned human. Idiot." Inuyasha hissed, still lurking by the doorway.

"Actually," Kagome mused, getting a better grip on her mother's limp body. "She took it better than I thought."

"Better?" Inuyasha echoed.

Kagome just gave him a weak smile as she carried her mother into the living room.
