Finale

By Icka! M. Chif

It was the final battle.

Sango and Miroku had been tossed out of the way of battle like rag dolls, both unconscious.

Shippou was likewise. He'd last a bit longer, preferring hit and run attacks of Kitsune Fire rather than hand to hand.

Naraku's hench deamons were gone, destroyed by their small band.

Naraku and Inu-yasha were the last two standing, still fighting with all their strength.

And Kagome, Kagome was the prize they fought for.

She watched from a distance, the restored Shikon Jewel clutched in her hand.

She was weak and weaponless, all of her arrows spent and her bow snapped in two. All she could do was watch, silently cheering Inu-yasha on and flinching when he fell.

He had ordered her to run, take the Shikon Jewel and get as far away from the battle and Naraku as she could.

And yet, she remained, watching. Running would do little good if they lost this battle.

She hated herself for it. If only she was stronger like Inu-yasha... if only she could do *anything*. Anything at all. Something besides watch.

Clutched tightly in her fist, the Jewel began to glow.

Inu-yasha staggered back, using the Tetsusaiga as both a prop to keep himself standing as well as defensive position.

Naraku was nearly defeated. One blow, just one blow would probably finish the villain off.

Unfortunately, one blow would be all it took to kill him too. Black spots danced infront of his eyes as blood dyed his pink cloak dark red. He marshaled is energy together. One blow... then he could rest. Just one blow...

Naraku smirked at him. "This... this ends NOW!" He shouted, making one last final attempt.

"Sankon Tetsusou!" Naraku suddenly exploded, falling apart into many small pieces that scattered everywhere.

"Nani?" Inu-yasha blinked, looking at the figure that now stood in front of him. "Ka-Kagome?"

Pointed ears twitched at the sound of his voice, surround by silver hair just a few shades lighter than her slitted eyes. She grinned at him, fangs sparkling at him as the remains of maisma dripped from her claws.

Kagome was half-youkai.

"Yiffin' shit." he swore, sitting down abruptly. "The Shijkon Jewel?"

"Is gone." Kagome confirmed, walking over. No, she didn't just walk anymore, not like the old Kagome had. This one glided. She extended a hand out to help support him.

"What the hell happened?" He demanded, anger giving him enough energy to wave her hand away.

Her eyes flickered, a bit of the human Kagome's emotions shining through. "I'm not really sure. I was watching the two of you fight, wishing I could do something to help... then I could."

She looked down at her claws. "How, how do you do this?" She asked, in a soft confused voice.

"Do what?" He asked.

"The smells, the sounds, how do you do this without going crazy?"

He snorted. "How do you puny humans survive with such dulled senses?" He retorted, a bit of wry humour colouring his voice. "You get used to it."

She nodded, or at least, it looked like she nodded. The world suddenly was spinning a bit much right now to figure it out. A strong arm slipped around him, keeping him upright.

"I think we'd better find the others." Kagome remarked before he could get angry for the assistance. He nodded, weakly trying to use the un-transformed Tetsusaiga to support him.

He snorted as they moved to where she had been standing. All this work for the Shikon no Tama, and it ends up turning a human into a half-youkai instead the other way around.

Or a half-youkai into a full youkai.

Whatever.

Kagome let out a small groan next to him, her face turning worried.

"What?" He growled.

She looked at him, eyes wide. "My mother is going to kill me."

For some odd reason, he found the comment extremely funny. He let out a small chuckle.

"What?! It's true! What am I supposed to do about school now?"

All those trips home, all that studying for 'exams' and now-

The thought stopped abruptly as the world swam around him again. He was just enough aware to feel Kagome gently set him down against a tree before he passed out.

With a smile still on his face.

Fin.
