Notes: Since Icka's leaving for New Zealand in three days (mad jealous!), here's a good bye present for her, and I thought I'd share it. Set between Friends and Family.

The Price You Pay: All Good Things
by Grace Musica

"All good things must come to an end, or so they say," Kaito quipped as he leaned against a telephone pole, watching his cousin straddle his motorcycle.

"Expected you ta know that one," Heiji teased back, tapping on his motorcycle helmet which was in his lap.

Kaito winked at him in reply.

"Next time, you bring ya work out ta me, got it Cuz?" Heiji demanded, shaking a finger at Kaito in mock reproach.

"You will get a notice at the same time as the rest of the family," Kaito replied. "I am not going to give you an unfair advantage simply because you know about our ties and the other two don't."

"Ah, c'mon! No fun."

"But I will see what I can do." Kaito grinned at him. "No promises, but I'll see."

Heiji grinned, and Kaito had to blink for a moment. His mother had noticed something about the four of them when Kaito had shown her pictures of Shin'ichi and Hakuba.

You all have the same smile, Kaito, the same one your father had that I fell in love with. It's genuine, but there's a little mischief and brilliance hiding behind it. Aside from you and Shin'ichi, the four of you look nothing alike. But when the four of you smile, you look like family.

Heiji put his helmet on, and Kaito flashed a grin of his own. "One day, cousin, I'm gonna put a Kid sticker on that helmet."

"What?" Heiji asked, unable to hear through the heavy padding and plastic over his ears.

Kaito laughed and waved his hand. "Drive safe. Don't be a stranger," he instructed in a louder voice, and Heiji nodded.

"Same ta you, Cuz, same ta you."
